Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is the first installment in the Mario & Luigi RPG series, originally released for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) in 2003. Developed by AlphaDream, it serves as a spiritual successor to Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario, blending traditional role-playing elements with active, reflex-based gameplay.

Core Gameplay Mechanics

• Dual Character Control: Players control both Mario and Luigi simultaneously using a unique setup where the A button controls Mario and the B button controls Luigi.
• Interactive Battle System: Battles are turn-based but require precise timing. Players can perform "Action Commands" to deal extra damage or use well-timed jumps and hammers to dodge or counter enemy attacks entirely.
• Bros. Actions & Attacks: Outside of battle, the brothers use cooperative techniques like the High Jump or Spin Jump to solve environmental puzzles. In battle, they can unleash powerful Bros. Attacks that consume Bros. Points (BP) and require coordinated button inputs.
• RPG Progression: Defeating enemies grants experience points to level up stats like HP, Defense, and "Stache" (which affects luck and shop prices). 

Plot and Setting

• Beanbean Kingdom: Departing from the Mushroom Kingdom, the game is set in the vibrant Beanbean Kingdom, a land that prizes humor and laughter.
• The Quest: An evil witch named Cackletta and her eccentric assistant Fawful steal Princess Peach’s voice, replacing it with explosives. Mario and Luigi must team up with an unlikely ally—Bowser—to retrieve it.
• Tone: The game is widely praised for its comedic writing, slapstick humor, and quirky characters like Prince Peasley.
